Kids' Imaginations Can Ruin Magic Acts NEW HAVEN, Conn. "Children are not the easiest audiences," says a parttime magician from Shelton, Conn. Pat Bayne, 21, says the imagination of children "knows no bounds. They don't see the impossibilities of an act and they imagine in their own way how it should be performed." Specializing in children's magic shows, the blue eyed dark-haired miss with turned up nose and dimples, has performed in practically every state in the U.S., mostly at hotels and shunning night club work until she became "of age." Besides her many children's programs, Miss Bayne offers special shows "for women." These are restricted primarily to the use of silks, flowers and birds. She owns 11 Java doves and spends several months training them for use in the shows.

A clerk at an industrial engineering firm, Miss Bayne attends college classes in the evening and eventually hopes to become an industrial engineer. The pert, ambitious young magician is serious about the world of magic. "Most people think of it only in terms of entertainment," she says. "But you should know the many sales promotion departments of business organizations who use magic as an important gimmick to create interest in business."
